Baptism is a Public Affirmation of Faith in Christ
Baptism is an important step in the walk of every Christian. It reflects a radical change in the direction of one’s life. “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
It’s a public confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior. “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32) It is an announcement of a change of heart, a decision to follow Jesus through the leading of God’s Holy Spirit in all we say and do.
The action of being immersed in the water illustrates dying to the old sinful nature and being buried with Christ. Coming out of the water illustrates Christ’s resurrection and our new life in Christ. “For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.” (Col 2:12)
Baptism is a joyful sacrament that we usually celebrate during worship services. Let the pastor know if you are interested in taking this important step in your walk with Christ.
